Folic acid is used to treat megaloblastic anaemia caused by folic acid deficiency. It is also used to prevent folate insufficiency in chronic hemolytic conditions, renal dialysis, and drug-induced folate deficiency. Folic acid is used to prevent neural tube abnormalities from recurring.
Hovid Folic acid 5mg is made in accordance with Pharmaceutical Standards and is used by doctors to refill folic acid levels in persons suffering from folic acid deficiency anaemia. Folic acid 5 mg is also administered to pregnant women during the first trimester to successfully prevent birth defects caused by faulty nerve growth in the fetus.
Prevention of recurrence of neural tube defects:
5mg daily starting before conception and continuing throughout the first trimester of pregnancy is recommended.
Over 1 year : As adult dose
Up to 1 year: 500µg/kg daily
Method of administration: The tablets are for oral use.
